The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Program in Clovis Unified is designed to provide special enrichment for students who have demonstrated exceptional abilities and whose educational needs may not be fully met without modifications of the regular instructional program. Each of the District's schools plans and implements its own GATE program according to the needs of its students.
GATE is a program for students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades.
Students are qualified for GATE based on their State Test scores. To qualify students need to score in the 95th Percentile (not percentage) in both the Language Arts and Math sections. Scores of all Clovis Unified Students (in each grade level) are compiled and compared in order to determine the 95th percentile scores.
A District test is given to students that were close to qualifying in both Language Arts and Math, and have a Teacher Recommendation. Students will need to score in the 98th Percentile on this test to qualify for GATE. The test is given only once per school year, usually in October or November.
