MAC & Kids- Multicultural Advisory Committee & Kids

MAC & Kids is a multicultural club at Maple Creek whose goal is to promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance of cultural diversity. Our club provides the opportunity to become more familiar with our diverse community at Maple Creek. Involvement in MAC & Kids helps develop self-esteem and pride in one’s heritage.

MAC & Kids members are devoted to learning about customs, beliefs, and foods that are unique to different cultures. Our group will organize major events throughout the school year so we may educate our school community about different cultures.

Membership includes parents and their children, of all ages, sharing and learning. A particular culture is celebrated at each meeting by providing parents with stimulating discussion while their children engage in a fun activity. Food is brought by members and relates to the ethnic culture being shared.

Cultural Education and Projects

Each year the grade level teams specifically target multiple cultural projects to enhance their curriculum. They focus on celebrating cultures in their classrooms and allow students to share their own unique experiences. The teachers collaborate to expand on the cultural focuses identified in the ELA Benchmark curriculum. These projects include STEM activites, research projects, literature studies, as well as arts.

Multicultural Fashion Show

Maple Creek established an opportunity for students to display their culture through an annual fashion show. This show allows students to model and display clothing from their culture. The entire student body gets to learn about the various cultures within the fabric of Maple Creek. This show is typically held in late fall, and is an anticipated event each year.
